Obituary for Charlyn Odom Ogden

Charlyn Odom Ogden, aged 77, passed away peacefully at her home in Starkville, Mississippi, on Sunday, February 12, 2024. Born on March 1, 1946, in Houston, Texas, she was the daughter of Carolyn Halbert Odom.

Charlyn was preceded in death by her husband, Colonel Robert H. “Butch” Ogden, her daughter, Katie Ladd, and her mother.

Charlyn was a graduate of S. D. Lee High School in Columbus, MS in 1964. She went on to attend Mississippi University for Women. She married the love of her life, Butch Ogden, at First Baptist Church in Columbus in 1968, and thus began their adventure in the Air Force.

Charlyn thrived in her chosen career as a faithful and dutiful military wife. This endeavor resulted in traveling around the world, as well as being stationed on various bases, both stateside and abroad, including Japan and England. Many treasured memories and lifelong friends were made along the way. Charlyn was also a master gardener and spent hours in her yard at home. She created beautiful flower arrangements for many parties and weddings, including the weddings of her nieces. Charlyn often created the floral arrangements for her church, The Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, where she was a member of the Altar Guild. Besides cultivating flowers, Charlyn was adept at cultivating long-lasting friendships. She truly treasured her many friends and always had plans to dine with her ladies, play bridge, and cheer on her Bulldogs. You could also find Charlyn saying, “Praise the Lord and Go Dawgs”. Her most favorite pastime was spending time with her grandson, Alexander. She loved playing games with him, watching him ride his bike, and swimming with him in the summer. He was truly the light of her life. Charlyn’s gracious, lively, and loving spirit will be greatly missed by all who loved her and were lucky enough to be loved by her.

Charlyn leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter. She is survived by her loving son, Robert Ogden (Crissy), her precious grandson, Alexander, and her siblings, Sally Guyton (Larry) and Chuck Odom (Toula), and her sister-in-law, Isla Tullos. She also leaves behind her beloved nieces, Caroline Blanks (Brad) and Mary Katherine Segrest (Chad), her great-niece, Abby Blanks, and great-nephews, Thomas Blanks, Camp Segrest and Nash Segrest. Charlyn also leaves behind extended family and countless friends whom she loved dearly.

The graveside service will be held Saturday, February 17, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Memorial Garden Park Cemetery in Starkville.
