Obituary for Millie Sellars

On or about 5:30, January 4, 2018, Millie (Ida Mildred Nations Sellars), went to sleep here on earth for the last time, and woke up in the palace of the King; no doubt she was received by a chorus of angels singing her welcome home and there to be forever more. Millie was a wonderful soul, full of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, faithfulness, gentleness, goodness, and self control. She came into this world on January 21, 1935 in Brookhaven, MS. Some time later the family moved to Jackson, MS. In Jackson Millie attended school and graduated high school at the Old Central High. She came to Mississippi State University to study Pre-Vet Science, but then changed her major to Horticulture after meeting her husband-to-be who was soon called to military service. She received her degree while in Germany, where her husband was posted with the famous 3rd Infantry Division of the U.S. Army. Millie was a wonderful Army wife. She did many things to contribute to garrison life. She taught math to the soldiers, engaged in American/German programs and had her first child. She loved being the wife of a soldier; the parades, balls, parties, teas, all of these activities were enjoyable to her. Upon returning to Starkville in 1973, she began teaching again at Starkville High School and later at Starkville Academy. She began to work at Mississippi State University and ended her time there at Bagley College of Engineering as Business Director in the Dean's office. Millie enjoyed doing things, old and historic things were important to her. Helping save the First Baptist Church Chapel was one of those things she was most proud of. The old building was to be torn down, but some of the church members felt the building should be saved and Millie became involved and contributed to the project. She was so proud of the results. Another restoration project was saving the old Terry residence from Main Street, moving it to the family farm north of Starkville and fitting it for comfortable living. This old home is said to be one of the first homes built in Starkville after the War Between the States. Millie loved animals, working with the local Humane Society for years and serving as secretary for several years. She provided homes for many homeless dogs over the years.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Nations.

Millie is survived by her husband of over 60 years, Paul Scott Sellars; her sister, Ann Seal (Dan) of Tupelo, MS; brother, Perry (Barbara) of Jackson, MS; two children, Paula of Tok, Alaska and Perry of Starkville, MS; five grandchildren, Chris Sellars, Nickolas Sellars, Victoria Sellars, all of Starkville, Mack Bears of Tok, Alaska and Molly Bears of Starkville; and three great grandchildren.

Services are planned for Monday, January 8, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Starkville, MS.

Memorials may be made to: Oktibbeha County Humane Society, OCHS, P. O. Box 297, Starkville, MS 39760, or to First United Methodist Church Music Program, P. O. Box 2585, Starkville, MS 39760, or to Charity of Choice.

Millie was grateful for the love and care she received at Dugan Care Home. They always demonstrated a Christian attitude during her almost three year stay.
