William Albert “Bill” Geiger

Bill Geiger, formerly of Starkville, MS, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ after a short illness in Natchez, MS. Arrangements are being handled by Welch Funeral home in Starkville. There will be a graveside service at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Starkville at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 15, 2018. Officiating will be his son-in-law, Wilton “Wil” Nolan.
Bill was born and raised in Mobile, Alabama and was preceded in death by his parents Oscar Elijah and Tae Thomas Geiger; his wife of 70 years, Jean Christopher Geiger; a son, William Austin; a infant daughter; and two brothers Oscar and Glen. He is survived by his daughter, Frances D. Geiger Nolan of Natchez; granddaughter, K. Noelle Nolan-Rider (Rachel Rider) of Ocean Springs, and brother, Ralph Geiger of Ft. Myers, Florida.
Bill was a person who stress God, family, and country. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Natchez and severed as an ordained deacon in several churches where he lived.
Bill loved his family and took pride in providing for them. He attended Texas A & I and, Mississippi State University; loved fishing and sports; and was a big Bulldog fan. His adult working career was spent with Mississippi Valley Gas, now Atmos. He retired as Manager of their office in Starkville. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Bill was very patriotic and served in WW II. He was involved in the Pacific and North African Invasions and received numerous metals for his service. Bill was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need or the disadvantaged. He was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, as well as the Lion’s Club. He served a President of the Board of Oktibbeha County Hospital. He was a Shriner and was Potentate of the Hamasa group in Starkville. With a rare blood type, he was often called for a blood donation. He never refused and was recognized for donating 12 gallons of blood.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children or Gideons International, or charity of choice. The family expresses appreciation to his wonderful caregivers Mary Murray and Mamie West.
