Obituary for Rick Lynn Noffsinger

Rick Lynn Noffsinger, age 63, passed away in his home in Starkville, Mississippi, surrounded by his family on Thursday, March 1, 2018 after a five-year fight with cancer. Born on October 7, 1954, he was the son of Charlie and Margaree Noffsinger and was the youngest of four children.
A native of Princeton, Kentucky, Rick was a newspaper man for 20 years and worked as publisher of eight newspapers in West Virginia, Indiana, Virginia, Colorado, and Mississippi (including the Starkville Daily News) from 1977-1997 before digitizing his trade with the advent of the Internet. The following 20 years he worked in web design as Director of Information at East Mississippi Community College from 1998-2000 and then as Web Producer at Mississippi State University from 2000-2018.
He graduated from Western Kentucky University in 1977 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communications and from Mississippi State University in 2009 with a Master’s Degree in Agricultural Information Science.
Rick has left us for a better place, where we can only imagine he is driving his red Mazda Miata down an old country road in a magical location where the foothills of the Rockies meet the Atlantic Ocean, blaring 1960’s rock with his Canon SLR in tow. He’s in a place where the ice cream is plentiful, the Bulldogs always win, and the Oxford comma is never forgotten. Apart from “zoom zooming” throughout the country, Rick is likely fulfilling his dream retirement, wearing a red vest and greeting customers at a Lowe’s where he can solve everyone’s electrical, plumbing, and yard care needs. Each evening he blissfully tends to his 125-gallon aquarium, fussing at the angelfish for eating his neon tetras.
He loved his family and was grateful for his devoted wife and children, and for the new joy of being a grandparent.

Left to honor and remember his love are his wife, Lisa Noffsinger of Starkville, Mississippi; son, Jason (and Sunny) Noffsinger of Memphis, Tennessee; daughter, Allison Noffsinger (and Ben Reed) of Atlanta, Georgia; stepdaughter, Andi (and Jordan) Kozlowski of Sumter, South Carolina; stepson, James Paden of Starkville, Mississippi; grandchildren, Caroline, Thornton, and Everett Noffsinger of Memphis, Tennessee; step-grandchild, Braylee Paden of Starkville, Mississippi; brother, Mike (and Ann) Noffsinger of Princeton, Kentucky; and sister, Nancy Noffsinger of Princeton, Kentucky. He is preceded in death by his brother, Gary Noffsinger (and Dennis Burnham) of St. Petersburg, Florida, and his parents, Margaree and Charlie Noffsinger of Princeton, Kentucky.

A private celebration of life will be held for close friends and family on Monday, March 5, 2018 from 4:00-6:00pm in Rick and Lisa’s home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Cancer Research Institute in Rick’s name (https://goo.gl/vayZFo).
