Obituary for Ruth Stewart

Ruth Stewart passed away at her home on Tuesday, January 2. She was born August 12, 1936. In October 1965 Ruth went to work for Lela's Flowers and in August 1966, she and Joe bought Lela's which became Stewart's Town & Campus Florist until they retired in June 2004.

In retirement, they loved traveling and following the bulldogs. She was a member of First United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie Fred Merritt and Miriam Pitner Merritt Bullock; and her sister, Betty Ajax Akers.

Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Joe W. Stewart; sons, Joe W. Stewart, Jr. (Barbara) and Fred Stewart of Starkville; grandchildren, Ginger Fisher (Cody) of Madison, MS and Kylie Crosland (Bobby) of Starkville; great grandchildren, Elise and Linley Fisher and Caroline and Maggie Crosland; and nieces, Amy Crigler and Alicia Rast.

Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, January 4, 2018 from 12:00-2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, with the funeral service at 2:00. Burial will be in Memorial Garden Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Cody Fisher, Bobby Crosland, Sid Crigler, Richard Rast, Coleman Crigler, and Andrew Dunaway.
