Bobby Lee Thomasson

He was born November 24, 1935 in Filburt, SC to Janie and William Thomasson. He graduated from Clover, SC High School in 1953 and served in the Air Force in Germany, Scotland, Texas and Alaska. Upon discharge from the Air Force, he began his work as a paper maker, beginning that career in Bowater Paper Company in Rock Hill, SC. While living in Rock Hill, he led the group that advocated Winthrop College, becoming a co-educational institution and was the first male student at Winthrop. He finished his degree at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC, where he was recognized as a member of Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities.

He worked at Willamette Paper Company in Hawesville, KY, before he became part of the start-up specialty team for the Weyerhaeuser Paper Company in Columbus, MS. It was while he was living in Columbus, MS, he met and married the love of his life, Becky Davis Thomasson. He retired from International Paper in 1997. He was an Eagle Scout and a member of First Baptist Church in Starkville, MS, and its Empty Nesters Sunday School class. At his death, he was serving as the resident manager of Browning Creek.

Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Dr. Becky Thomasson; daughter, Dr. Ann Marie Kelly Neave (Stuart) of Kinross, Scotland; sons, Davis Kelly (Shelly) of Starkville, MS, and Bryan Thomasson (Jenna) of Mt. Laurel, NJ, as well as five grandchildren, Douglas Kelly, Jillian Kelly, and Madeline Kelly all of Starkville, MS, and Zoe Neave and Eilidh Neave of Kinross, Scotland.

Visitation will be Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at First Baptist Church in Starkville, MS from 12:00-2:00 p.m., with the service immediately following. Burial will be in Memorial Garden Park Cemetery in Starkville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the donor's favorite charity or Palmer Home for Children, P.O. Box 746, Columbus, MS 39703.
