Keller and Mattie Lou Keller, but spent the majority growing up in Amory, MS. He graduated from Amory high school in 1948 where he excelled in sports, including baseball, basketball and football. After high school, he felt obligated to serve his country in the United States Air Force. He served a total of four years where he was apart of the Korean Conflict during his service. After his service, he worked at the Columbus Air Force Base in the Civil Engineering department for many years.
