Sylvia R. Allen, died peacefully on August 4, 2016, in hospice with her husband and daughters by her side. Sylvia was born March 3, 1950, in Jackson, MS, and adopted into her forever home in Starkville, MS, by parents Mack A. & Kathryn H. Rowzee.

Sylvia had a soft spot for all animals, especially cats. She also loved swimming, playing and coaching softball, collecting antiques, arts & crafts, and being around her grandchildren. Sylvia graduated from Starkville High School and attended Wood Junior College, and later Vaughn Cosmetology School in Aberdeen, MS.

Sylvia was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Starkville, as were her parents, and as are her daughters.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, Mack and Kathryn, and by her grandson, Corey McPherson, 17, of Ackerman, MS. She is survived by her husband, Thomas Lee Allen of West Point, and her two daughters, Leigh Ann Evans (Joe) of Starkville, and Mitzi McPherson (Marty) of Ackerman. She is also survived by four beautiful grandsons: Drew McPherson (22) and Austin McPherson (13) of Ackerman, and Jonah Evans (9) and Rhys Evans (5) of Starkville.
Visitation is Scheduled for Monday August 8 from 4:00-6:00 at Welch Funeral Home in Starkville, with the service at 6:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home
