Obituary for Margaret Milam Fisher

Margaret Milam Fisher, 89, passed away on August 5, 2015 at OCH Regional Medical Center in Starkville, MS. Born and raised in Charleston, MS, Margaret was a graduate of Delta State College. She lived 47 years in Marks, MS, before moving to Starkville in 1997 to be with her daughter and her family. She worked a short time with Mississippi Cooperative Extension Service and then retired from USDA Farmers Home Administration. Mrs. Fisher became actively involved in activities at Starkville First United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Wesley Sunday School Class, United Methodist Women, and the Prayer Quilt Ministry. She was also very active in the community, where she was a member of the Starkville Newcomers, Home Economics in Home and Community, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, and the MSU Dugout Club. She enjoyed tailgating and attending Bulldog sporting events, especially Women's Basketball games, and she was an avid player in numerous bridge clubs and also loved playing dominos.

Mrs. Fisher was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Harris Milam and Maggie Steele Milam; and her husband, Ward Fisher, Jr.; son, Ward Fisher, III, sister, Ann Whitten Sayle; brother, Tom Milam; and daughter-in-law, Pat Kerley Fisher.

She is survived by her daughter, Anna Fisher Hood (Ken) of Starkville, MS; and grandchildren, Kenneth Austin Hood (Meredith) of Cordova, TN, Joanna Fisher of Brandon, MS, and Jennifer Fisher Nickell (Chris) of Hattiesburg, MS.

Visitation for Mrs. Fisher is scheduled for Friday, August 7, 2015 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Welch Funeral Home in Starkville, MS, and then on Saturday, August 8, 2015 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church with the funeral immediately following. Burial will be in Memorial Garden Park Cemetery.
